This sculpture is a film.

But while in conventional cinema the device is exterior to the viewer who must remain passive, here the viewer is part of it. And thus takes part in it. The film materialised in the sculpture is only revealed when the viewer moves around it, while focusing on its silhouette.

Lisboa, 1962  

Lisboa, 1962

5 digital prints on glossy photographic paper, (40 x 30 cm each)

In 1962 the construction works for the new bridge across river Tejo connecting Lisboa and Almada started. Since then the city’s landscape changed forever. Inspired by a famous tile mosaic of Lisboa’s landscape (found in Museu Nacional do Azulejo), this work recreates a photographic view of the city which lets us see it without the bridge again.

Pin-Up

Generative video (16:9 vertical), color, 19” LCD screen, variable duration

Pin-up girls always look at us. And they all look the same. Using about 100 photos of a pin-up girl this generative video slowly melts several bodies of a pin-up girl into a single multifaceted body which still insists in sharply gazing at us. Being generated by an algorithm in real time this video never repeats itself and evolves forever.

It was developed using the vvvv framework and I’d like to thank the vvvv community for their contribution to this project.

Self-portrait is an installation which consists of a large flat screen placed in a horizontal position and framed inside a box in a way that the screen becomes square. Placed in this way, I look up to the viewers who, in their turn, look down on me.
